We encourage you to use the feature to include qualitative feedback and not just numerical grades. Feedback and assessment are essential to learning and should empower learners to improve. When done well, feedback allows learners to reflect on their progress, and helps them identify strategies to become better. How can you give better feedback? Here are some tips:
Be consistent with the goals. Make sure you framed the assignment well by adding a rubric, sharing expectations, or aligning it with learning goals. Use those expectations as starting points for the feedback you will give.
Comment on the process and product. If your assignment is designed authentically, both the process and the product should be aligned with your rubrics and learning goals. Providing feedback to the product tells learners “how good looks like.” It also answers the question, “What steps did I do well, and which ones can I improve next time?”
Offer next steps. Identify action steps that will help the learner acquire a higher level of proficiency to make the feedback useful, encouraging learners to become better.
Each Assignment has a Grading Overview page, which displays how many students have turned in their assignments. It can also automatically sort your students' submissions by what's Turned In, Not Turned In, and Graded, or you can view All students.
In this page, you can also check which students have already opened the assignments by viewing the Read Receipts status below their name.
From the Grading Overview page, go to the Turned In tab, which will show all students who are ready to be graded.
Input a grade in the Score and Total text fields. You can input numerical grade. We encourage you to not just give grades on assignments, but to use the feature to include qualitative feedback.
